Man with the camera

It's quite amazing considering the number of cameras sold and blogs around, just how few a number of people focus on street photography in any serious capacity. I bumped into a maestro of street photography in Wellington. His name is Julian Ward and has been taking mainly b&w images from around the city for many many years. Julian uses the same type of camera that I do..an M leica - digital and film. Check his top work and his book in the link.

If only I had talent with a camera...stuff singing as a talent, I'd choose having a photographic eye and technical know-how with a picture box anyday.

Yep I have known Julian for many years. His best work is as good as any out there -anywhere.What makes him different from anyone I know is his passion. He will not leave home without his camera. His volume of work is immense and it's a tragedy he does not get the national recognition he so thoroughly deserves. Its a real shame that galleries have failed to grasp the cultural and historical significance his images portray about life in New Zealand through a very educated eye.I live in hope that one day his work will be recognised for what it is by those who make the decisions - and control the purse strings.

There is one other thing I would like to mention. Julians landscape images which include the Makara coast and a lot of west coast of the south island are very beautiful as well.

I loooove Julian's work, so great to see a photo of him! Another cool NZ street photographer is Doug Richards from Auckland. Public Address recently did a feature: http://publicaddress.net/capture/city-scenes/
