Peter & Bill

This is iconic gallerist Peter Mcleavey in front of a Bill Hammond ( $160,000 NZD since you asked - yes that includes the frame).

McLeavey has been at the forefront of the New Zealand art scene since the 1950's. The book he is holding up is the handwritten ledger where he annotates all the sales he has made since the...dawn of time. You will find EVERY big name in this ledger (an artwork in itself) from McCahon, to Don Binny, to Gordon Walters, to Ralph Hotere...just everyone.

Many of us feel we have an understanding, an appreciation of what art means. But Peter lives every minutae of art-life.

"The walls here are inhabited with the artists that have passed by- their spirits will remain with me and live with me always."

McLeavey is a living legend- one of the first art dealers (when it became more commercial in the 60s) in New Zealand. He is a living link to McCahon. Dream dinner party guest!!!
